Staff Sgt. Lawrence Salcido Receives the Purple Heart Medal!
On Friday, February 8, 2010, our very own Staff Sgt. Lawrence Salcido received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received while serving in Afghanistan last year. Lawrence and two others received this well deserved medal after being wounded by improvised explosive (IE) devices.
Lawrence said he and 17 other Marines were sent on a mounted patrol to find insurgents who had attacked a convoy the previous day. “When we stopped our vehicle to use Expray and the vehicle moved that last little bit from putting it into park the IED went off,” he said.

Special Thanks to Denise Salcido for planning this special event.
“The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another’s desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.”– Erma Bombeck
